New plants for your 2022 garden: Interesting annuals and perennials

C ustomer Notice — Due to current courier demand , there may be a delay in delivery , we apologise for any inconvenience. Please Note: Our next dispatch date will be Tuesday 4th January. We applaud our staff who have shown such tremendous team spirit and resilience over recent weeks. We remain alert and offer our full assurance that safety is always our primary concern for staff and customers alike. We are proud to say we have an extensive nursery that supplies our garden centre with a huge range of plants.

We grow the majority of our stock on site so we are able to guarantee the quality and affordability of each individual specimen. This translates to our customers being able to make huge savings by buying directly from us, the grower. Jacksons Nurseries is approximately feet above sea level on the edge of the Staffordshire Moorlands Peak District ensuring all plants produced are fully hardy and will develop quickly in your garden. We sell a fantastic range of plants all year round including:.

Our garden centre shop stocks a varied selection of gardening accessories and tools, pots and planters, garden ornaments and stoneware, garden furniture as well as garden essentials including bulbs and bedding plants. Our vast range of products allows us to cater to the needs of gardeners of all ages and abilities so you can be sure to find whatever you are looking for under one roof here at Jacksons Nurseries. Along with our comprehensive garden shop and fully stocked plant area, we also have plenty to keep the kids happy.

Our great selection of animals have been popular for years so why not come and see them for yourselves. We keep animals such as a red deer and peacocks. We also have a play area featuring swings, slides and the remains of an old Ferguson tractor that can be sat and played on.

We are located in the countryside on the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Stunning views can be seen towards the Peak District which can be enjoyed while browsing our outdoor plant area or whilst enjoying a refreshment in our tea room.

Our outdoor decking area is next to a large pond complete with fish and a stunning fountain that operates throughout the summer months. Our location makes a perfect pit stop for local hikers making the most of the fresh air. There are many walks around Bagnall open to the public and our Tea Room is an excellent place to stop for refreshment along the way. We think our Garden Centre is great but don't just take our word for it. Here is what some of our customers have to say about us! After eventually finding the place we walked in to a well stocked and well merchandised shop with everything from a small farm shop offering to various gifts for the whole family including pets - and surprisingly for a small and independent nursery the prices were rather good.

We decided to get our plants first then use the coffee shop afterwards. The plant offering here is exceptional and laid out brilliantly, showcasing both the plants at their full potential but also the wide variety. We had a couple of stunning roses with plenty of buds, a couple of peonies and some grasses.

What I also liked about this place is that unusually for a small nursery it offered a good play area for children next to an aviary housing a couple of beautiful yet rather vocal peacocks, made for a unique add on as we browsed. The ladies tending to the flowers were so so nice, incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and engaging with all customers.

Before we left we popped in for some coffees and scones - absolutely delicious - this has certainly become a firm favourite in the area. Our Staffordshire Garden Centre is fully stocked with a wide variety of quality plants as well as a range of garden products. Our Staffordshire Tea Room is open every day, serving delicious homemade hot and cold food and cake. Our Staffordshire Farm Shop is brimming with quality locally sourced food, delicious home baking and much more.

Although brighter days are on the horizon with a vaccine rollout in full swing and a roadmap to life returning to normal, the horticultural industry has also seen hugely challenging times, first being shut completely during much of the first lockdown last year, before then being allowed to open with a massively reduced footfall in recent months. According to the latest lockdown guidance, essential retail such as food shops, supermarkets, pharmacies and garden centres can remain open with Covid-secure measures in place, with compulsory face masks and social distancing being required. This has no doubt been a lifeline for British flower growers, big and small, especially as spring is also the busiest time of the year for garden centres. Not only that, two of the biggest events in the horticultural calendar — the Chelsea Flower Show and the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show — are also hoping to go ahead after being cancelled in

Make a donation.Choosing and buying plants from a nursery or garden centre can be a pleasurable experience and, with a few guidelines, you can ensure you get the best quality plants that will grow and flower well in your garden. The great thing about garden centres is that you can buy plants any time of the year when they have them available. However, garden centres often have the best selection when plants are in flower; ceanothus in spring for example, with relatively few during other seasons. Selecting and buying plants is not always straightforward. To make the best possible choices, consider the following before you purchase:. Make sure seasonal bedding plants are planted as soon as possible once watered thoroughly so that the roots can establish in the soil or potting compost.

Home comforts are important come December. Think colourful floor cushions on the deck, night perfumed plants, laughter and frolicking on the lawn. Alongside the traditions of overeating, drinking and falling asleep in the afternoon sun, Christmas is also a time with strong plant associations.
