With its online program, graduate certificate and Agroforestry Academy, the Center for Agroforestry works hard to promote the many facets of agroforestry to a wide audience. One group who the Center for Agroforestry has been researching on how to more efficiently reach is high school students. MU will train high school teachers in the new agroforestry curriculum. Gold and Hemmelgarn are joined by Hank Stelzer, MU forestry department chair, and Anna Ball, MU agricultural education and leadership professor and director of graduate studies. Stelzer and Ball are both advising on the agroforestry curriculum development. Each have experience in developing curriculum for projects such as this.

One day will be reserved for a Protect Purdue-approved social outing in the local community designed for team building.Students with an interest in science and technology can apply to Pre-College MASI by completing the online application.
Students will be expected to find transportation to and from campus daily. The cost of travel is not included in the covered expenses. PASA is a day residential program to immerse participants in a specific field of study, through a series of hands-on labs, and workshops designed to provide real-life experiences within the STEM fields throughout our academic departments. Students will pick a track theme of study and have research projects to complete and present during the institute.
In addition PASA makes industry visits and participates in agro-tourism activities across the state of Indiana. Since , Purdue Agriculture has welcomed Indiana high school students and teachers to become global hunger fighters through a free, two-day event.
After writing a research paper regarding global challenges in a foreign country, five students from each school are invited to present their research to Purdue University faculty and staff experts. The event allows students and teachers to network with each other, interact with Purdue Agriculture academic departments, and learn from experts in agriculture and other disciplines about global food security challenges and solutions. Many different camps and workshops are offered throughout the year to provide youth with additional positive youth development experiences.

Grove spent this past summer working with James Schnable , Charles O. Gardner Professor of Agronomy, and her mentor Michael Tross, a doctoral student studying integrated plant biology, as part of the Young Nebraska Scientists program. Young Nebraska Scientists provides STEM summer research internships in university laboratories for high school students and offers students an extended, paid taste of the camaraderie and focus of a university research team. High school researchers work alongside mentors and other members of a research team to accomplish their research tasks.
