I bought the Shark Navigator about three years ago when my previous vacuum cleaner broke. I bought the lift-away deluxe model.
I read several reviews on Dyson and other brands, but settled on the Shark bagless vacuum based on the positive reviews and cost.
Is it worth the money? Having owned my Shark now for three years, I've used it long enough to write a fair review. In my experience, it's a good vacuum, but not perfect. I'll explain what I like and don't like about it.
On occasion, the beater bar stops working suddenly, even without a tangle or jam underneath. This problem doesn't happen every time I use the vacuum, but it's still annoying when it happens. Turning the vacuum off and on again usually fixes the problem, but not always.
The problem may be caused by overheating, or a defective part. I'm not sure. Unfortunately, the problem began long after the return window ended, so I was unable to return or exchange it. Besides the problem with the beater bar though, I'm satisfied with the performance of this vacuum when it functions. I believe this product comes with a two-year warranty.
The Navigator Deluxe has really good suction, removing debris from my carpeting that my previous vacuum left behind. On thicker carpeting, you have to push the vacuum slow to really work it into the carpet, but the suction doesn't disappoint.
I don't have pets, but for anyone who does, this is a good pet vacuum for removing dog hair. I've used mine to remove dog hair from my drop cloths. The bare floor setting works well too. The vacuum is a little heavy to push sometimes, even with the self-propulsion. This might be a problem for some. The vacuum steering does swivel, which makes cleaning easier and faster.
Having to make trips to the store to buy replacement bags for my old vacuum wasn't fun. One of the reasons I bought the Shark Navigator was not having to buy replacement bags anymore.
The Navigator has a removable dust cup that disconnects easily from the vacuum by unlocking two latches. My only complaint is the dust cup is a little small and fills up rather fast. My house is small, so this isn't much of an issue for me, but the cup would likely need to be dumped out more than once while cleaning a bigger home with kids and pets. I usually have to dump out the container one time per cleaning. There is also a removable HEPA filter that comes out easily for washing.
The lift-away feature is nice for cleaning stairs and tight spots where it's difficult to maneuver the entire vacuum. I use it to clean my carpeted basement stairs and it works well. The canister detaches from the rest of the vacuum for portable use. The attachments are also useful, which includes one for cleaning under appliances.
I give my Shark (NV360) four stars. I'd give it five stars if it weren't for the beater bar problems I've experienced. The suction with this vacuum is very good. The first time I used it, I was surprised by its cleaning power. Even when you think your carpet's clean, the Shark will pull deep dirt and lint out of it. The overall size of the Navigator is a tad small, which is great for storage, but takes a little longer to clean carpet.
The cord isn't retractable, which might be annoying for some, but not a problem for me. The cord is twenty five feet and long enough for my needs. If you have a large home, you might want to consider buying a vacuum cleaner with a larger canister, unless you don't mind dumping it out a few times when cleaning. This one is small and fills up fast.
Price wise, the cost is fair, compared to competing brands with similar suction power. Spending more than $200 on a vacuum cleaner is crazy, at least to me. I bought mine for $150 at my local Target.
Question: Does the Shark Navigator vacuum have a belt?
Answer: Yes, I believe this vacuum has a belt, but I'm not one hundred percent certain.
